Florianus Bluemner
(1867 - 1938) was a German-born American modernist painter. Bluemner settled in New York in 1901. In 1908 he met Alfred Stieglitz, who introduced him to other American and European artists, mainly avant-garde. Around 1910 he decided to dedicate himself completely to painting, to the detriment of architecture. He exhibited in 1913 at the Armory Show. In 1915 he exhibited at Stieglitz's Gallery 291. Despite participating in several exhibitions, including solo ones, for the next few years he sold very few works and lived in near poverty
