BIOGRAPHY:
Crawshaw was born near Doncaster, Yorkshire. He attended Cambridge University where he initially qualified as a solicitor before taking up Art, studying in Dusseldorf, Karlsruhe and at Colarossi’s in Paris.
He exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Scottish Academy, Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Water Colours, New English Art Club, and elsewhere. His wife, Frances Crawshaw, was a flower painter. Considered a member of the Staithes Group, he and Frances lived in Yorkshire until the early 1930s but exhibited from addresses in Scotland, Worcestershire and Liverpool. They latterly lived in Devon.
Cranshaw was an accomplished and versatile artist. He produced oils, watercolors, and etchings; including landscapes, seascapes, figures, genre scenes, and architectural studies. Stylistically, Crawshaw also exhibited a broad range of interests and technique.
