Harry Belafonte Signed & Inscribed Photo, "holding me prisoner in my warehouse"
A framed photograph of actor and musician Harry Belafonte. The black and white photo measures 3.25" x 5.25", n.p., n.d. A brilliant portrait by Carl Van Vechten of Belefonte, barefoot, in costume, and posed in a dance stance, in his role from John M. Anderson's Broadway production, "Almanac". Signed and inscribed on verso: "To Tracey…Glenn made me inscribe this. He's holding me prisoner in my warehouse. All the best - Harry Belafonte." Mounted and framed to the overall size of 7" x 9.25", in a custom frame so that the back is visible. The photograph has bumped and slightly worn corners. Boldly signed, very good overall.
Harry Belafonte (1927-2023) popularized calypso music during the 1950s and 60s with his album "Calypso" (1956). He was also a close confidant of Martin Luther King Jr. and stayed politically active throughout his life. Belafonte starred in several films, with his final feature appearance being in Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman in 2018.
