DESCRIPTION: 19th century Pennsylvania painted and stenciled deacon's bench. A mid-19th century stenciled and painted mixed woods deacon's bench probably Pennsylvania. The form consisting of turned elements creating a tri-part stretcher supporting the slab seat. The back with short spindles and shaped horizontals. Scroll arms. The surface with a faux grained paint scheme over which are stenciled and bronze painted fruit and grapes. The paint dating probably from 1940 and perhaps Esther Stevens Brazer Guild work. MEASUREMENT: 69" wide x 21-1/4" deep x 32-1/2" high. CONDITION: One stretcher replaced and unpainted. Painted surface dating probably 1940s, wear consistent with age. MEG/PS
