DESCRIPTION: "Fruit In Miniature". Cadurcis Plantagenent Ream (American, 1838-1917). Oil on board. Signed lower right. In gilt frame with plaque "Fruit In Miniature C.P. Ream". Family inscription verso. Born in Ohio, C. P. Ream moved to Chicago in 1878 and became that city's most famous still-life painter. Ream is known for his depictions of fruit with his work typically featuring table-top studies of fruit placed near or in a china dish or glass. He also painted landscapes, figures, and portraits. MEASUREMENTS: 71/4" high x 9-1/4" wide; frame 2-1/2" wide. CONDITION: Evidence of old restoration. DP.
