Five Civil War Figures Signatures, Confederate, Etc. (1) Lieutenant Colonel John J. McCook (1845 - 1911) signed check. This check was to Hettie Beatty McCook (1858 - 1942) to settle her fathers estate. John was one of two Ohio brothers, who along with their 13 sons, that became widely known as the "Fighting McCooks." The check measures 2 3/4" X 8 3/8". (1) Document signed by Daniel McCook (1798 - 1863). Daniel was awarded a commission as Major of The Ohio Militia. He fought in the Battle of Shiloh and would die in The Battle of Buffington Island against CSA Gen. John Hunt Morgan trying to avenge the death of one of his sons. Document measures 4 5/8" X 7 3/4". (1) Senator George Wallace Jones (1804-1896) signed envelope. Jones was one of the first two senators from the state of Iowa. He was a friend of Jefferson Davis and was imprisoned for a time for writing letters to him. Envelope measures 3 1/8" X 5 1/2". (1) John Peter Richardson, Jr. (1831-1899) signature. Richardson was the Governor of South Carolina and served on the staff of CSA General James
