Description
Amazing autobiography from former slave turned educator and civil rights activist Booker T. Washington. This book "Up from Slavery" describes his rise from slave child to receiving his education from Hampton institute and establishing vocational schools for people of color. He describes the hard work to achieve his goals and the relationships he built along the way. Unfortunately Mr. Washington passed the relatively young age of 59 from kidney disease brought on by high blood pressure. This book was originally published on 1900 as a series in a magazine called The Outlet and published in book form in 1901. Easton Press published this book again in 1970 in the Masterpieces of American Liturature. It is leather bound with gold embossing.
