Provenance: Estate of Howell Dean Coe III, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Literature: "James Hansen: A Retrospective", curated by Pasquale Natale and John Donovan, Provincetown Art Association and Museum, exhibition catalogue, 2007.
Notes: After graduating from Pratt Institute, James Hansen arrived in Provincetown in the early 1980s and immersed himself in the community of artists. A diverse and adventuresome artist, Hansen worked in a variety of media in a surrealist manner. He received a National Endowment for the Arts grant and a fellowship from the Massachusetts Council on the Arts and Humanities. Tragically, Hansen died of AIDS at forty-five years old, and Provincetown Art Association and Museum organized a retrospective exhibition and catalogue in 2007.
