Five Civil War Signatures, Tennessee, Etc. (1) John Bell (1796-1869) autographed slip. United States Senator from Tennessee, Bell would make an unsuccessful bid for the presidency in 1860. Bell argued against Tennessee seceding until after Fort Sumter. Measures 1 1/4" X 2 1/4". (1) General William Jay Smith (1823-1913) autograph. Smith served in the Sixth Tennessee Calvary Regiment during the war. He joined the regiment in 1862, at Bethel Springs, Tennessee. He colluded with Colonel Fielding Hurst to rob plantations, even taking slaves, and ladies garments for his wife and daughter. Smith gained a reputation for seizing everything from furniture to mules and slaves and sending them back to his own plantation for his own personal use. He died in 1913 and is buried in Memphis, Tennessee. Autographed card measures 2 3/4" X 4 7/8". (1) Lieutenant Colonel Peter Snyder signed letter. Snyder was enlisted in the 7th Arkansas Infantry Regiment Co. A. This document is dated February 20, 1864 when Snyder was stationed in Corinth, Mississippi.

Condition- Snyder letter has a crease, toning, and stains. Others have toning, etc. See photos.
