Description
DESCRIPTION: (2 Pc) Pair of fluted parian ware porcelain vases, by the MMA (Metropolitan Museum of Art). The original of these vases may have been made at the United States Pottery Company in Bennington, Vermont. Parian is a fine-grained porcelain which resembles marble when unglazed. It was first produced in England in the early 1840s. By the late 1840s Christopher Webber Fenton of Bennington manufactured and sold parian decorative vessels, boxes, and figures. Fenton's parian products, as well as those produced by other American and English factories, enjoyed wide popularity during the mid-to-late nineteenth century. This pair is a reproduction from the MMA, (Metropolitan Museum of Art) with glazed interior.
