Description
The Great War on White Slavery or Fighting For the Protection of Our Girls:
By Hon. Clifford G. Roe and B.S. Steadwell.
First Edition, Clifford G. Roe, January 1, 1911
Illustrated with Thirty-two Half Tone Engravings Portraying this Terrible Slavery.
From the title page: Truthful and Caste Account of the Hideous Trade of Buying and Selling Young Girls for Immoral Purposes, Startling Disclosures made by White Slaves during the Trails of Many Procurers and Traders, The Cruel and Inhuman Treatment of White Slaves. The Astounding Confession of a Pander.
Clifford Roe, an Assistant States Attorney and Public Prosecutor in Chicago, penned a series of books that outlined the evils of human trafficking. In The Great War on White Slavery, he estimated that 60,000 females were victims of trafficking in a single year. Clifford Roe pursued an American purity, a widely held cause in the late 19th to early 20th centuries. His attacks on White Slavery though, contained an anti-immigrant flavor with a dose of racism.
