The figure of Daniel stands resolute on the left, before the window of the prison cell in which he has been placed; sunlight shines down on his face and the stone floor around him. Seven lions pad around in the shadows to the right, keeping a cautious distance. Signed with initials, lower right. Additionally inscribed, on the backside. Briton Riviere was a British artist of Huguenot descent. He exhibited a variety of paintings at the Royal Academy, but devoted much of his life to animal paintings. One of a kind artwork.
