Description
Keith Pezzoli, a 20th century American artist, oil painting on canvas, Daniels Answer to the King, after the original oil painting on canvas, 1890, by Briton Riviere, British, 1840 to 1920. Biblical narrative depicting Daniel in the lions den. The figure of Daniel stands resolute on the left, before the window of the prison cell in which he has been placed; sunlight shines down on his face and the stone floor around him. Seven lions pad around in the shadows to the right, keeping a cautious distance. Signed with initials, lower right. Additionally inscribed, on the backside. Briton Riviere was a British artist of Huguenot descent. He exhibited a variety of paintings at the Royal Academy, but devoted much of his life to animal paintings. One of a kind artwork.
