Description
Signed twice on the reverse, stamped into the clay
A large example designed and carved by the hand of Albert Solon, who immigrated from England in 1912 and became the Director of the Arequipa Pottery. He opened the S&S Tile Company with Frank Schemmel in 1920. Several deeply carved and glazed bowls in the same style and signed by Albert Solon are in collections.
Purchased recently from an old estate in San Jose, California and not seen on the market previously. A museum quality American art pottery tile.
Size - 8" x 8" x 1/2"
CONDITION : Excellent condition with no crazing, hairlines, or cracks. There are two small shallow glaze flakes at the upper left of the design (easily repaired if desired - see close-up photos). No previous restoration.
