His playing career lasted from 1962 until 1973. He was known for playing for the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, Houston Astros and the Atlanta Braves. Pepitone was a three-time MLB All-Star player. In 1982, Pepitone was hired as a major league hitting coach with the Yankees but was replaced by Lou Pinella because he was sent to prison. Yet George Steinbrenner re-hired him in 1988 as part of a work-release program to serve in the development of minor league players. Pepitone received a 1999 World Series ring for his relationship with the Yankees, eventually selling it at auction.
