Description
Three U.S Civil War Figures' Autographs. All three autographs have been professionally framed and matted and include a photograph and an autobiographical sketch of the figure. (1) Thaddeus Stevens (1792-1868) "The Great Commoner." Stevens was a member of the House of Representatives as a "Radical Republican," and was a staunch supporter of Abraham Lincoln. Autograph area measures 1 1/8" X 2 5/8". Frame measures 11 1/8" X 12 3/4". (1) James Murray Mason (1798-1871). Mason was a Virginia aristocrat and a supporter of the Confederacy. He was chosen to be an envoy to Britain but was captured en route by the Union. The photograph appears to be a period photograph but was not taken out of frame. Autograph area measures approx. 1 1/2" X 3 1/2". Frame measures 10 1/2" X 13 1/8". (1) Pierre Soule (1801-1870) was a powerful Democratic Senator from Louisiana. He eventually resigned and served a minor role in the Confederate government. Soule's autograph is on a period letter. The autographed letter measures approx. 3" X 5 1/4". Frame measures 11 3/8" X 14". The Larry Mangus Collection, Corinth, Mississippi. Condition- Overall good condition with toning and some minor stains. See photos.
