Native American, Western United States, Northern Plains, Crow (Apsaalooke), ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A tapering awl case made from tanned hide covered in beading, with dangling tin cone tassels on the flap opening and the case's tip. Inside is an old bone, perhaps once the handle to an awl or other tool. Stitched with hundreds of glass seed beads encircling the entire surface in Cheyenne pink, white, and cobalt. This awl case would have been worn on a belt as a decorative and useful pouch for storing awls or other sewing tools. Size w/ tassels: 16" L x 1" W (40.6 cm x 2.5 cm)

Condition
Some fraying to threads, but beading is intact and excellent. Some wear and discoloration, but hide is supple. Bone may have been a sharpened awl or handle to another tool.
