Native American, Western United States, Nevada, Paiute or Washoe culture, ca. early 20th century C. A beautiful beaded degikup basket made from plant fibers over coiled cane, the exterior completely beaded from base to rim in geometric patterns - making this a truly "fancy basket." Degikup style baskets are characterized by their flat base, rounded form, with a relatively small mouth; made using a centuries old coiling technique using native plants such as willow, fern, rosebud, and bracken. The seed beads were introduced with European trade and incorporated by using a netted stitch over the degikup basket surface. Size: 4.5" Diameter x 3" H (11.4 cm x 7.6 cm)
