Description
An antique French Neoclassical gilt and patinated bronze mantel set comprising a central clock and a pair of flanking candelabra, circa the second half of the 19th century. The central shelf or mantel clock features a rectangular socle decorated with embossed gilt bronze mounts, raised on figural feet modeled as mythical fish and surmounted by a figure of a young lady wearing an Ancient toga, possibly representing Aphrodite riding in her chariot and holding an anchor. Two seven-light side candelabras feature figural stands modeled as beautifully detailed ancient Korai. Pedestals are decorated with gilt bronze bands depicting relief scenes from Ancient history.
