A rare original watercolor, color pencil and ink painting by David Burliuk, Russian, American 1882 to 1967. The painting is a Self Portrait, signed lower left, Burliuk, inscribed, Happy New Year, in center and dated 1947 on the palette. The drawing made in the style of the postcard (folded) and also signed inside, David Marussia Burliuk with an abstract drawing is on the verso. Matted and framed. David Davidovich Burliuk was a poet, artist and publicist associated with the Futurist and Neo-Primitivist movements. At the outbreak of World War I, the artist fled to Siberia then Japan before relocating to New York in 1922. His works are held in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C., and the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, among others.
