Description
Baxter engraving of Portrait of Sir Robert Peel, engraving, image size 4 x 3 inches, with blind embossed seal, framed size 10.25 x 9 inches. After a picture by Sir Thomas Lawrence. Robert Peel was the Conservative Prime Minister of the UK from December 1834 to April 1835, and again for almost five years from 1841 to 1846. He created the modern concept of the police force while Home Secretary, and it is from his name that English police are called "bobbies" or "peelers" in Ireland. The Baxter print was issued in 1853, shortly after Peel's death. Sunday Monitor, signed indistinctly, image size 4.5 x 6, framed size 5.5 inches x 7 inches, Two Men and A Woman in Conversation, signed in the plate, image size 7 x 4.75 inches, framed size 12 x 9.5 inches.
