Chinese Yuan Dynasty style porcelain jar with blue and white pattern. This porcelain has a round open mouth, slightly protruding lips, short neck, convex belly, and slightly concave base of ring feet. The hand-painted ornamentation is presented on a clean white base contrasting with subtle shades of blue, four floral shaped emblems adorned with figurines sitting relaxing on a field amidst lush trees, all surrounded by flowers, leaves, scrolling ruyi and auspicious petals. Blue and white porcelain is called blue and white porcelain in China. It is the most important variety in Chinese porcelain. It originated in the Yuan Dynasty. It uses cobalt oxide as a colorant. The white glaze is thick, smooth and of contrasting colour. The blue and white glaze is simple, elegant and pleasant. The underside is unglazed to reveal a light cream base with dark gray-brown flecked burn marks and trimmed feet. Dimensions: Height: 30cm, Diameter: 31cm
