Josephine Hayne (1856-1938) American, Oil on Canvas. A pair of pheasants in a landscape. Large oil on canvas. Jennie Hayne is known for Still Life, botanical and floral painting, teaching. Born on an 1847 Oregon donation land claim, Jennie Hayne attended the Oregon City Seminary until age 15. She married Joseph T. Hayne, a printer who worked for newspapers in Portland and San Francisco. They returned to Portland where she advertised as an artist and private teacher of oil and watercolor painting. She was an exhibiting member of the Portland Sketch Club and the Oregon Art Association. She was featured in a one-person show of her oil paintings in the 1891 Portland Industrial Exposition. She is probably the Mrs. J. T. Hayne who exhibited at the National Academy of Design in 1897. One of her paintings, Caroline Testout Roses, features the official Portland flower, which was planted in abundance during the 1905 Lewis and Clark Exposition. Overall Size: 38 x 28 1/2 in.
