Description
Donald Vann (Cherokee, b. 1949). Mixed media (ink and watercolor) on paper, 1968. Signed and dated "Vann 68" at lower right. A wonderful work by Cherokee artist Donald Vann who is best known for his poignant images inspired by the Trail of Tears. The composition features two figures (perhaps Cherokee or Plains Indians) on horseback and another standing between them on the open land with the sun rising above. All is delineated with Vann's signature soft lines and serene tone. Vann is a full blood Cherokee artist who was born in Oklahoma and strives to capture the experiences of his people with a transcendent quality. An outstanding example of Vann's oeuvre mounted under glass in a custom gold tone frame. Condition
Signed and dated "Vann 68" at lower right. Artwork is mounted under glass in a custom gold tone frame. Has not been examined outside the frame but appears to be in very nice condition with strong imagery. Some crease marks are visible through the glass. Custom frame is also very nice and fit with suspension wire.
