Charles Dickens Letter 1857 Death of Dora. Signed Charles Dickens at the Bottom with lines below it. Dated April 19, 1951. Dora Had passed away April 14th 1851. Dora was just 8 months old and died of convulsions. She was the 9th child and third daughter of Charles and Catherine Dickens.DICKENS, CHARLES. 1812-1870.Autograph Letter Signed ("Charles Dickens") with usual flourish, 1 p, 8vo, Devonshire Terrace, London, April 19, 1851, to William Dudley, written on mourning stationery, partially backed, 2 small perforations at margins, folds weakened, light toning.Charles Dickens thanks an acquaintance for his letter and transmits some sad news: "I received your letter at Marlboro. Since then I have been in some trouble. The sudden death of a little daughter - she was called Dora, in remembrance of a book you have read has much affected us. But I cannot refrain from thanking you and assuring you that I am truly gratified by your communication." Dickens' infant daughter who died in 1851 was named after a favorite character in David Copperfiel Size: 7 x 4 1/2 in.
