Antonius van Dale ( 1638 - 1708 ) was born in Holland. In his early years he had a passion for languages, but his parents persuaded him to enter commerce. At 30 years of age he returned to the study of languages and acquired expertise in Greek and Latin, he also studied physic and gained a degree. He was a preacher in the sect of the Mennonites. He wrote a number of books, the one offered here is the one he is probably best remembered for.
In this book on the Heathen Oracles he maintains that they were the fraud of idolatrous priests.
