Item Details
Description
This great lamp is commemorating Disneyland's 50th Anniversary of Tomorrowland. Beautiful Moonliner "Rocket to the Moon" lamp comes with the display you see and all the original documents and COA. Light bulb is installed behind the "Rocket to th Moon" sign which illuminates the word, moon. There were only 1000 of these cool pieces created and they were released in 2005. Collection from uberfan and super collector of animation art, all things Disney, Warner Bros/Looney Tunes, Universal/Betty Boop etc, Chuck Jones and more! Here are some fun facts about Disneyland's rocket, the Moonliner:The Moonliner was designed by John Hench, one of the original Disney Imagineers, with the help of German rocket scientist Wernher von Braun. It was 76 feet tall, making it the tallest structure in Disneyland at the time.It was sponsored by Trans World Airlines (TWA), and featured the TWA logo on its side. The Moonliner was located in Tomorrowland, next to the Flight to the Moon attraction. It was removed from Disneyland in 1967, but a smaller version was built in 1998.The Moonliner is a popular symbol of Tomorrowland, and has been featured in several Disney films and television shows. Here are some more fun facts about the Moonliner:The Moonliner's design was based on von Braun's V-2 rocket, but it was also meant to represent a commercial spaceliner that would be used to travel to the Moon in the future. The Moonliner's landing leg covers were said to resemble the fuselage shape on TWA's elegant Lockheed Constellation airliner. The Moonliner featured portholes, a raised cockpit area, and a boarding ramp.A real Moonliner was envisioned to be powered by a nuclear reactor and actually be more than 200 feet tall; the theme park's Moonliner was roughly a one-third scale model.
