Description
Theodor Lindner (1882 - 1956 ): Inner courtyard with large crucifix, c. 1930, Oil
Technique: Oil on Canvas
Inscription: Middle left signed: "Th Lindner".
Date: c. 1930
Description: Austere still life in the courtyard of a village house. A large crucifix hangs above a passageway in the wall, lending the work a solemn religiosity. As a testimony to bourgeois piety and almost genre-like humility, the painting stands out from Lindner's ouevre. Neither gallant ladies nor proud military men are to be seen here. The centre of the painting is solely the Christian symbol and the commemoration of the Passion of Jesus Christ.
Keywords: Architecture, Bourgeoisie, Biedermeier, Jesus Christ, Faith, Devotion, Passion, 20th century, Realism, Religious, Germany,
Condition
Good condition. Five small damages, backed on verso and retouched on recto. Fine splashes of light paint are visible in the centre. The frame shows signs of age and storage.
