Date: c. 1850
Description: Steel engraving by J. E. Pannier, signed and titled below the image: "Mad. De Mirbel Pinx / Pannier Sculp. / Fitz-James". Very fine portrait of the poet. Murbel portrayed Fitz-James in a bust portrait in middle years. Thick hair and a whisker frame the round face of the Irish writer Fitz-James (1828-1862). Michael Fitz- James O'Brien wrote The Diamond Lens (1858), The Dragon's Tooth of the Wizard Piuo-Lu (1856), The Vanishing Room (1858), What Was It? (1859) and The Wandsmith (1859).J. E. Pannier (Paris 1802 - Paris 1869) was a French portrait painter, engraver and pastelist.

Condition
Good condition. The image makes a very good impression. The sheet is pale foxed due to its age, at the back side's upper edge with two small adhesive strips of an earlier mounting.
