Renee Vivien. 1903 "Sapho" and handwritten letter. Vivien was an important female and lesbian poetess in the late 19th/early 20th century. Notably, this work translates the ancient Greek poetess from Lesbos, Sappho, a well known symbol of love between women and the namesake for the modern day words "Lesbian" and "Sapphic". French translation with the original Greek text bound together with a handwritten letter by Vivien on violet letterhead and several illustrations. Three quarter leather binding with appropriately colored violet marbled paper boards. Includes original blue paper wraps. Ribbed spine. Good condition. 7.5 x 5.25in.
