Daniel Folger Bigelow (1823 - 1910) Oil on Board, Signed, Measures (9.5 x 8 inches ) w/frame ( 14 x 12 inches ) Daniel Folger Bigelow, a landscape and still life painter, was born at Peru, Clinton County (N.Y.), July 22, 1823. Bigelow is said to have received his first instruction in art from a cousin of Hiram Powers. He moved to Chicago in 1858, there winning considerable reputation as a landscape painter and becoming one of the associates of G. P. A. Healy and the group of artists who founded the Chicago Academy of Design, later to be called the Chicago Art Institute.Many of his landscape subjects were taken from trips to New York and New England
