Description
18th c. King George III Historical Court Document from 1795 | Ink on Sheepskin Parchment. This remarkable document features an ornate heading with a shoulder length portrait of George III inside a large letter "G" and is elaborately decorated with detailed flourishes. The document also has thick engraved pictorial borders on both the right and left sides of the document's text (with engraving plate marks still present). The page has a blue Royal 5 shilling tax stamp on the upper left margin. The text is handwritten clearly and in readable English.Features an impressive large round wax seal of the English Court attached to the documents folded bottom. Its presence signifies that the document has been examined, determined to be accurate, and duly recorded for public notice. The seal maintains very good impressions on each side, one side of which has the Royal Coat of Arms of King George III, and the other side has the official symbol / seal of the court. The seal is preserved in a customary tin case. Historical documents such as this that were made in the name of America's last King George III are especially prized for their historical association.Document Details: The document is an excellent example of a court order or judgment by the Court of Common Pleas in Cambridgeshire England during the later half of the 18th Century. The judgment was rendered in favor of the Plaintiff (Demandant, James Jonson Esq.) for the recovery of real property from a tenant (Alexander the Younger), and whose claim is supported by a Vouchee (Walton). A Vouchee was a person who is vouched, or called into court to support or make good his warranty of title in the process of common recovery. The court case was heard before Sir James Lure[?}, Knight and his brethren of Justices.
