Model Totem Pole, April 1966
argillite, 5 x 1.75 x 1.75 in (12.7 x 4.4 x 4.4 cm)
signed, dated, and inscribed, "PAT DIXON / APRIL 1966 / SKIDEGATE / B.C.".
Provenance
Waddington's, Toronto, 4 June 1981, Lot 056;
Acquired from the above by a Private Collection, Ontario, accompanied by a copy of the original invoice;
by descent in the family.
A model pole possibly depicting Raven and Killer whale.
Pat Dixon (1938 – 2015) was from Skidegate, Haida Gwaii. He moved to Vancouver in 1966 to work with Pat McGuire who had established a successful studio and career in Vancouver. Dixon carved argillite almost exclusively.
