**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Mediterranean, Phoenicia & Roman, ca. 6th BCE to 4th CE; Central Asia / Near East, Afghanistan, Bactrian (Oxus Civilization) / Mesopotamia, 2000 to 1000 BCE. A collection of ancient beads carved from stone and molded from glass: 2 stone cylinder beads with mottled surfaces, a banded agate with a flat verso and lateral piercing, a lapis stone face of a man, a limestone face of a sheep or camelid creature, a Phoenician glass head, and finally a spherical white and blue glass "eye" bead. These could be restrung as part of larger necklaces or used as pendants and in good condition! Beads were especially important not only as jewelry but as tools and currency in many cultures- figurines, heads, and eyes were worn as protective talismans, and cylinder beads were often carved with images used as personal seals to mark clay. Size of large cylinder: 1" L x 0.25" W (2.5 cm x 0.6 cm)

Chips and nicks to surfaces, otherwise intact. Mineral deposits and surface wear to glass head bead and sheep head bead. Overall good condition and beads could be restrung.
