Lee GodieThe drawing is made in the well-known style of Lee Godie. He was a self-taught American artist who was active in Chicago from the late 1960s to the early 1990s. She was a prolific artist known for her modified paintings and photographs which are exhibited in galleries and museums including the Hayward Gallery in London and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. She is often considered Chicago's most collected artist. Godie's paintings were created in a variety of media including watercolor, pencil, tempera, ballpoint pen, and crayon and on a number of surfaces including canvas, cardstock, sheets of paper, and discarded blinds. Some of her works were several pieces sewn together as a triptych or book. Godie more frequently painted female busts, which he felt were "an expression of beauty". Portraits of her were often personal: she drew herself, her friends, passersby, and famous people.
The word "In the style of" is used for a work by an unknown creator who has created a copy of a known work by that artist.
