Large "Ubanga Nyama" LENGOLA Figure 63"
Superb geometrization and stylization for this figure
Virtually nothing is known about the use of these statues, which are made up of several parts and can be taken apart. Joseph Cornet and Marc Leo Felix speculated that it would be a representation of the founding ancestor of the tribe
The Lengola are a Bantu forest people of Central Africa, settled in the center-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). They are geographically and culturally close to the Metoko. Like them, they practice the cult of Bukota, a semi-secret society which organizes the social structure and ensures the stability of the community.
