Description
Durand Pegasus Bronze Lamps with Martin Bach Jr(attrib) Loetz- Style Shades
Durand (attrib)exceptional Bronze Pegasus Lamps Durand Art Glass with Loetz style shades attributed to Martin Bach

The Durand (Loetz- style )art glass globes are typical of the work of Martin Bach Jr. Each of the shades is supported by a rearing bronze pegasus winged horse. We came across a Bach shade created for Durand Art Glass, virtually identical to these, from the collection of the Birmingham Museum of Art. Durand art glass was made between 1924 and 1931. Durand was the art glass division of Vineland Flint Glass Works which was founded by Victor Durand and stopped production after Durand's death in an auto accident in 1931.

Many of the glass artists came from the Quezal Art Glass Company which had closed in 1924 which had been founded by Martin Bach Sr. The spherical art glass diffuser, having green iridescent glass with mottled orange decoration, iridescent purple threading. These lamps could optionally be mounted on newel posts. Each has a jewel set in the center of the base that would accommodate their being mounted on a newel post or column. No makers marks found.
Base - 14 1/2" to top of socket x 10 1/2" wide x 7 1/2" diameter at the foot. Globes - 5" diameter. Overall height with shades - 17 3/4" high.
Condition
Very good. with nice patina. Minor flea bite chips to the fitter rims of the shades. Old wiring and socket.
