Limoges Robert Haviland & C. Parlon La Chasse a La Licorne , Hunt of Unicorn Plates hand painted porcelain plates . Limited editions # 1 & #2 ca. 1971, 1972 gilt edging , 10 in. From 1971-1976 Robert Haviland and C. Parlon produced a set of six plates based the antique Unicorn Tapestries (French: La Chasse à la licorne) made in the South Netherlands around 1495–1505. These 2 plates depict tapestries that are in The Cloisters Museum , part of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The ancient tapestries were woven in wool, metallic threads, and silk and depicted the lore of the hunt for the elusive unicorn. It was once speculated that the tapestries were commissioned by Anne of Brittany to celebrate her marriage to, King Louis XII of France in 1499.
