Atomic Bomb: Bockscar. Bockscar is the name of the Army Air Forces B-29 bomber that dropped a Fat Man nuclear weapon over the Japanese city of Nagasaki during World War II in the second – and last – nuclear attack in history. Bockscar was flown on August 9, 1945, by the crew of another B-29, The Great Artiste, and piloted by Major Charles W. Sweeney (1919-2004), commander of the 393d Bombardment Squadron. The plane was co-piloted by First Lieutenant Charles Donald Albury (1920-2009). 11’ x 8’ color photograph signed by seven crew members: Major Charles W Sweeney Aircraft Commander Nagasaki Aug 9 1945,.
