Wood lap desk with brass hardware, interior with velvet writing surface and wooden compartments. Affixed with a silver plaque engraved “Presented to the 15th Regt. Anderson Cavalry by their Lady Friends of Philad April 26th 1864.” 17 1/2 in x 10 in x 6 in high.
The 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry, also known as the Anderson Cavalry, was formed in the summer of 1862 by officers and soldiers of the Anderson Troop, an independent company originally mustered in November 1861. Through the majority of the war, the regiment was an independent unit that reported directly to the headquarters of the Army of the Cumberland. The regiment saw action at the Battles of Antietam, Stones River, and Chickamauga.
