Description
Rare Souvenir Bank from Newburgh, NY. Made by W. D. Spalding - Pattern Maker. The bottom is marked: Inv APR 29, 1876. Ex - Alvin Goldstein Collection. The Jonathan Hasbrouck farmhouse overlooking the Hudson River in Newburgh, NY was used by General George Washington as his headquarters from April 1782 until August 1783. It was the last headquarters used by the Continental Army before military activities in the Revolutionary War came to an end on April 19, 1783. At this time, there are only two known extant examples of this rare toy bank. This specimen is totally original and intact.
