Description
Canal Waterway, Signed E. Boudin lower right and inscribed "Canal" lower left, pastel and charcoal with white heightening on board, 13" x 17", Framed, Overall measures 20" x 24". Note: Boudin was a great influence and admirer of Claude Monet. He was one of the first artist's of the day to paint "plein aire" (outdoors). The paintings and drawings of Boudin are in major museums and collections. He was a painter of skies, they took up at least 2/3 or 3/4 of the picture. In his Salon review of 1859, Baudelair praised the many studies of skies, which Boudin had made and “their fantastic and luminous shapes, the chaotic darkness, the floating and intermingling masses of green and pink…”.
