Hard boards, illustration and dark-brown lettering on spine and front board [some wear]; 6" x 8.1/2"; 79 pages + 8 color plates including frontispiece [all listed plates are present], very good condition.
This book is an introduction to art and life of the Renaissance genius Tintoretto, an artist who created some of the masterpieces of Venetian Renaissance art. Fully illustrated, with images of Tintoretto’s art, and his contemporaries.
Samuel Levy Bensusan (1872-1958) was a British author, musician, traveler, and playwright.
Tintoretto (born Jacopo Robusti; 1518-1594) was an Italian painter identified with the Venetian school. His contemporaries both admired and criticized the speed with which he painted, and the unprecedented boldness of his brushwork. For his phenomenal energy in painting he was termed Il Furioso ("The Furious"). His work is characterized by his muscular figures, dramatic gestures and bold use of perspective, in the Mannerist style.
