THE ETERNAL BRIDES - The stories for each Bride come from the motif or patterns that Hisashi Otsuka has created in each kimono. The Brides that are pictured are Eternal Brides because they represent all Brides. (The Japanese word for Bride is Hanayome) "Celebration of Life", the center Bride, is the most colorful of the Brides. Her kimono has dancing, singing, musical instrument playing figures representing the celebration that takes place at weddings. What is actually being celebrated is the beginning of a new life, the life that the Bride is about to begin as a wife and eventually, hopefully, as a mother. Along with the wedding and the feeling of becoming and a wife are the expectations that each Bride has for her life in the future, including that of raising and nurturing a family. "Maternal Joy", the Bride with the gold kimono, has scene that depicts mothers and children interacting in the most basic of ways to portray the special relationship that exists between a mother and her children. The joy that a mother feels at being a mother is something that every Bride looks forward to as she is starting a family, a new life. "Youthful Innocence", the third Bride, in the silver kimono, has a scene in her kimono showing children dancing and playing without an adult involved enjoying life as only children can, with an innocence and exuberance that only children can display. This is truly the gift that children give to all of us, the gift of allowing us and her, to once again experience and recapture the joy of life as viewed through the eyes of the children, her children. This Print comes already framed. In Mint Condition! Hisashi Otsuka Left His Japanese Homeland For Hawaii, Seeking The Artistic Freedom He Couldn't Find In Japan. Western Culture Appealed Very Much To Him, And He Wanted To Combine This With Traditional Japanese Culture In Visual Expressions That Would Enhance These Two Distinct Points Of View. Otsuka Is Schooled In Zen And The Martial Arts, And The Warriors Code Of Discipline And Duty Is One He Lives And Works By. He Believes That Life And Art Create Each Other. His Balance Of Eastern And Western Artistic Sensibilities, As Well As Meticulous Skill, Have Lead Him To Worldwide Recognition.
