Egyptian Silver Scarab, c. 600 B.C.
Cast realistically with fine details and drilled horizontally for suspension. Such scarabs would have been part of an important and elaborate necklace of gold, precious and semiprecious stones.
Temple inscriptions suggest that for much of Egypt's history, silver was valued more highly than gold.
