Description
A nice Egyptian carnelian scarab, Middle Kingdom, c. 2061 - 1690 BC, the body nicely carved with flat base and holed lengthwise for suspension. 12 x 9 mm. Well preserved with nice original polish. Carnelian, along with amethyst, became quite popular during the Middle Kingdom for scarabs and other items that were used for jewelry. Ex Hamdy Sakr collection; previously in the private collection of Alex Anckonie III, acquired during his time in the Navy in the 1960's - 1970's.
