Description
Group of (4) late 18th century Continental silver table articles, to include: pair of French pierced salt cellars with cobalt glass inserts, Paris, 1780s, with beaded rims, festoons, masks and foliate supports ending in paw feet, charge marks and 1782 mark of the Maison Commune inside, discharge and countermark on bottoms, (one glass insert with chips, both with fractures); and pair of Dutch .833 silver ladles, J.M. van Kempen and Zn. Voorschoten, 1887, having bowl with scalloped edge, handle with twisted midsection and beveled handle with beaded edge, hallmarked on backs of handles. Minor wear. Salt cellar 2''h, 3-3/8''w, 2-3/4''d; ladle 6-1/2''l; total approximate weight 7.4 troy oz. Provenance: Estate of Joseph ''Jay'' St. Mark, PhD, of Newtown, Connecticut, historian, appraiser, and collector of fine Americana.
