Chief Bacon Rind (Osage, 1860-1932), signed lower right "S. Salomon Tulsa 1924", (American, 20th century), oil on canvas, 27 x 22 in.; carved wood frame, 32 x 27 in.; together with a photograph by Burnette H. Love of Chief Bacon Rind, signed in the negative and dated 1913, silver gelatin print, 10 x 8 in.; in original inscribed mat, gilt wood frame, 14-1/2 x 12 in.
Note: The artist presumably painted this portrait after the famous photograph (print included in this lot) of the Chief, a copy of which is in the Library of Congress, as well as many other historical societies and institutions. the painting with stretcher marks, slight area of buckling/crackle lower center; frame with minimal wear; the photograph mounted on board, lifting in places, abrasions, abrasions and spots apparently in the negative, original mat with tear at upper right corner; frame with minimal wear at corners
