Description
This 1930 etching of "Anais", the artist's first wife, measures 8 3/4" x 6 3/4" and is pencil signed on the l.r., framed, Fletcher cat: 67, in an edition of 111. Born in England and found to be artistically talented at an early age, he was enrolled in the Royal Academy Schools. A scholarship enabled him to study in France and Italy where the great masters, Botticelli and da Vinci, had a lasting influence on him. A self-taught etcher who became one of the best portrait etchers in art history being elected into the Royal Society of Painter - Etchers and Engravers in 1921.
