Footnotes: Please note this Lot is to be sold at No Reserve. Provenance: Anita Gray, Oriental Ceramics and Works of Art, London, 8 June 2007 (cream jug and cover) Cindy and Harry Rubicam Antiques, Sharon, CT (Samson dishes) The classical story of the Judgment of Paris enjoyed a great revival in the Renaissance, providing as it did a high-minded purpose for the painting of three female nudes. Eighteenth-century prints were taken to China where it became a popular painted subject for export porcelain. For the same subject on a cup and saucer, see David Howard and John Ayers, China for the West, vol. I, London and New York, 1978, p. 329, pl. 324, and further discussion of mythological themes in Chinese export porcelains. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
