Description
A pair of antique Japanese Satsuma pottery vases. Taisho era, 1912 to 1926. Rounded shape, cylindrical neck with flared rims, pronounced base. The pieces are richly decorated with hand-painted traditional Japanese ornaments, gilding, and depictions of samurai. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province, since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export and therefore elaborately decorated.
